Description: Sheriff Polk was ambushed and shot as he stood on the front porch of his residence. Chief Deputy Loftin had just driven Sheriff Polk home after they had conducted a liquor raid. Sheriff Polk was transported to the hospital where he died. Six suspects were convicted and received sentences ranging from life in prison to 10 years.
