Description: Sheriff Powers was shot in the chest as he attempted to stop a burglary in progress at a local bank. A loud explosion alerted Sheriff Powers to the commotion at the bank. When Sheriff Powers and Deputy Joe King arrived at the scene, they exchanged gunfire with the robbers and wounded one of them. Sheriff Powers was shot in the chest and died at the scene. Two suspects were convicted of murder and executed by hanging.
