Description: Marshal Phillips and Sheriff Reese had gone to local bar to arrest suspects for public drunkenness. As the officers tried to arrest suspects a fight broke out that resulted in Marshal Phillips being struck with a large piece of lumber across the head. Sheriff Reese escaped with minor injuries, but Marshal Phillips died from a fractured skull.
