Description: Sheriff Pannett was accidentally shot with his own gun when he slipped and fell down a flight of stairs. Sheriff Pannett heard unusual noises coming from the jail and went to investigate. As he descended the stairs to the basement, with a flashlight in hand, he slipped and fell. His .32 caliber service revolver struck the stairs and discharged, striking him in the head. Sheriff Pannett was rushed to the hospital where he died.
