Description: Sergeant Pierce and Officer George Watson were on patrol when they confronted two suspicious men. As the officers questioned the men, one of the men drew a handgun and shot Sergeant Pierce. Officer Watson was disarmed and beaten unconscious. The gunmen escaped. Sergeant Pierce died of his wound four months later. Officer Watson recovered. The suspects were arrested. Sergeant Pierce's assailant was convicted of murder and executed by firing squad.
