Description: On June 28, 1895, Dispensary Constable Pettigrew and Constable Toland were shot, in an exchange of gunfire, when they stopped two moonshiners who were transporting a wagon filled with whiskey. Both moonshiners were killed. Constable Pettigrew died of his injuries two weeks later on July 13th. Constable Toland survived his injuries.
