Description: Trooper Ponder was shot and killed while conducting a traffic stop. Trooper Ponder initiated a traffic stop and made contact with the driver and all occupants of the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle then sped off for unknown reasons and Trooper Ponder engaged in a vehicle pursuit. The suspect then stopped the vehicle abruptly and Trooper Ponder's vehicle stopped just short of the vehicle. The suspect then drew a handgun, shot Trooper Ponder several times and fled the scene on foot. Trooper Ponder was transported to the hospital where he succumbed to his wounds. The suspect was found the next day and killed when he approached Troopers with a gun drawn.
