Description: On September 3, 1990, Sergeant Palmer was shot by his wife's mentally deranged ex-husband. The man gained entry into the home and shot and killed Sergeant Palmer's two children. Sergeant Palmer, although shot in the chest, returned fire and killed his assailant. Sergeant Palmer died of his injuries three weeks later on September 25, 1990.
