Description: On May 6, 1978, Deputy Sheriff Procter was shot in the abdomen with his own gun while attempting to subdue shoplifters at a supermarket. Deputy Procter was transported to the hospital where he underwent surgery. Deputy Procter died of complications of the gunshot wound two weeks later on May 20th. His assailant was convicted of manslaughter.
