Description: Deputy Pierce and Deputy Robert Crain were about to arrest two men suspected of moonshining when one of the men produced a concealed gun and began shooting. Deputy Pierce was shot and bludgeoned to death. Deputy Crain was also killed. The shooter buried Deputy Pierce in a swamp and hid Deputy Crain's body under the carcass of a cow.
