Description: Patrolman Patterson arrested J.H. Smith early in the day for public drunkenness. When the suspect was released from jail he stated that "Patterson would be dead by the end of the day." Smith confronted Patterson that afternoon, gunfire erupted and Patrolman Patterson was killed. The suspect was the son of an Alabama City police officer.
