Description: Deputy Paul and his partner, Deputy Sheriff Lon Pearson, attempted to arrest a man wanted for forgery. The Deputies stopped the suspect who pretended to have engine trouble and asked them for a pair of pliers. The suspect, having distracted the officers, opened fire on them and escaped. Deputy Pearson died at the scene. Deputy Paul was rushed to the hospital with a gunshot wound to the head. He died three days later.
