Description: Deputy Marshal Rivers and Deputy Sheriff Earl Womack stopped an automobile containing five passengers for questioning. Marshal Rivers informed them that he had federal warrants for their arrest regarding illegal liquor activity. The suspects opened fire on the officers, killing Deputy Marshal Rivers. Deputy Womack returned fire but the suspects escaped. Ten suspects were arrested the following day.
