Description: Chief Ryti was on routine patrol when a suspect drunk driver crashed into his patrol unit head on. Chief Ryti was in a coma for two weeks before regaining consciousness. Chief Ryti suffered severe brain and spinal cord damage and medically retired in 1970. He remained under the care of his family and doctors until his death seven years later.
