Description: Deputy Marshal Ray succumbed to injuries sustained when he attempted to stop a car he suspected of carrying illegal liquor near Lexington, Kentucky. A gunbattle ensued when Marshal Ray attempted to stop the car and Marshal Ray was shot in the abdomen. The suspect was also shot in the incident and charged with wounding with the intent to kill an officer. Two other suspects involved in the shooting escaped capture.
