Description: Officer Riojas was shot while attempting to arrest a suspect that was wanted by the San Antonio Police Department. The police department had begun surveillance at several locations throughout the city for the suspect who was wanted on five felony charges. Officer Riojas had identified the suspect in the apartment complex he was patrolling and began pursuit. While attempting to handcuff the suspect, the suspect gained control of Officer Riojas' weapon and shot him in the head. Officer Riojas died shortly after being transported to the local hospital.
