Description: Officer Riggs spotted a van at a service station that matched the description of one used in an armed robbery earlier that night. As Officer Riggs approached the driver, he was shot in the chest and the abdomen with a .38-caliber gun. His assailant was convicted of murder and sentenced to death by lethal injection on April 27, 2000.
