Description: Deputy Sheriff Read was shot as he attempted to stop illegal gambling at a picnic. Deputy Read, who was at the picnic to keep order, observed a group of men who were gambling. When Deputy Read ordered the men to stop, one of the men pulled a gun and shot Deputy Read five times. The suspect was arrested.
