Description: On February 23, 1884, Town Marshal Richards was ambushed and shot by a suspect in retaliation for an earlier arrest for causing a public disturbance. Marshal Richards was shot multiple times and was bedridden until his death a week later on February 29th. The suspect fled the scene and was killed by a posse.
