Description: On January 14, 2014, Agent Rivera-Vega was shot when he and other members of the Mayaguez Drugs Division were investigating illegal drug activity. During the course of the investigation, a resident began questioning the officers and suddenly produced a .357 caliber handgun and shot Agent Rivera-Vega in the abdomen twice. Agent Rivera-Vega was transported to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries seven days later. His assailant committed suicide.
