Description: Officer Rather was fatally shot during an inspection of a parked vehicle. He and Deputy J.W. Duke approached a car that was occupied by a woman and two men. When Officer Rather began to question the suspect, he exited his vehicle and shot Officer Rather in his chest. Officer Rather was transported to the local hospital where he died shortly after arrival.
