Description: Special Agents Reed and B.B. Collins were at the Wichita (KS) rail yard on the lookout for three men who had robbed a freight car of cigarettes. The agents spotted the suspects hiding among the weeds and attempted to make an arrest. One of the suspects shot Agent Reed, killing him instantly. Agent Collins returned fire, but the suspects escaped; they were caught a few hours later.
