Description: City Marshal Rice was shot as he attempted to disarm an intoxicated suspect who was brandishing a shotgun and making threats. The suspect fled to his house when he saw Marshal Rice approach. Marshal Rice went to the residence and called the suspect outside to give up the shotgun. The suspect responded by firing once, and shot Marshal Rice in the chest. Marshal Rice died at the scene. The suspect was arrested and convicted of murder.
