Description: Attempting other arrest (excludes burglary, robbery and drug-related arrests). Deputy City Marshal Sweet and Deputy Wiseman went to the Courthouse Square to confront two suspects who had been drinking and causing a disturbance in public. The suspects produced shot guns and began firing at the two officers. Marshal Sweet was struck in the chest with a double barrel shotgun, he died instantly. Deputy Wiseman was wounded in the shoulder.
