Description: Officer Simmons responded to a disturbance call on March 18, 1985. The suspect shot Officer Simmons in the chin, damaging his vocal cord and severing an artery. One month after the incident, Officer Simmons, while still under a doctors? care, slipped into a coma and never regained consciousness. He remained under medical care until his death 19 years later on July 10, 2004.
