Description: Deputy Shelby was walking his beat when he came across an intoxicated man mistreating his son in front of a saloon. Officer Shelby escorted the boy home and returned to the saloon where the man was behaving in a disorderly manner. Deputy Shelby ordered the man to cease and desist. The man responded by firing a round, which struck Officer Shelby in the throat, killing him instantly. The suspect fled the scene but was later captured and jailed.
