Description: Patrolman Sponsel was shot and killed when he went to investigate a complaint at a local restaurant. The call reported that three suspicious men were outside a restaurant and possibly armed. After Patrolman Sponsel investigated he did not see the suspicious men, and returned to his patrol car. When Patrolman Sponsel returned to his cruiser the suspects shot him several times. Patrolman Sponsel was found dead in his patrol car. The suspects were arrested. Patrolman Sponsel's assailant received the death penalty and was electrocuted.
