Description: Officer Sherman and his partner Officer Hoffman were dispatched to check out two suspicious men who were thought to have just robbed an auto service garage. Hoffman was the first to exit the police car as the two men began to drive away. A struggle ensued and when Officer Sherman approached to help the second man pulled out a gun and shot him in the upper left chest, piercing his heart, the arm, and the back. Officer Sherman died at the hospital. Officer Hoffman was also shot three times. The two men drove away but were later found and convicted.
