Description: Officer Sanders and Lake County Deputy David Hefner were killed while responding to a family disturbance call in the River Road area. Officer Sanders and other officers engaged the suspect in a two-hour gun battle. When Officer Sanders and other officers attempted to enter the suspect?s house, Officer Sanders was shot and killed. The suspect then shot and killed himself. Deputy Hefner died five months later of his injuries.
