Description: Trooper Scales was performing seatbelt inspections near the Carteret Borough toll plaza when he was struck and killed by a tractor-trailer. The accident occurred when Trooper Scales slipped off the concrete toll booth island and fell under the wheels of the truck. Trooper Scales was pronounced dead at the scene.
