Description: Officer Smith and his partner were staging a liquor/marijuana raid. Retrieving two alcohol-filled containers a woman had thrown out the window, the two officers held the woman and her husband in the apartment. Officer Smith was holding the jugs as the male suspect came at him with a coathanger, smashing one container and spilling the contents over a lit stove. Flames burst out, igniting Officer Smith. His partner tried to extinguish the flames but, he too, was burnt. Officer Smith was rushed to the hospital, where he died from his injuries four days later. The two suspects escaped, but a third man who was sleeping in the apartment was arrested.
