Description: Officer Stewart and his partner were on patrol when they attempted to stop a motorist who had ran a red light. While attempting to stop the driver, shots were fired from the vehicle at the officers. Officer Stewart was critically injured when one round entered between the two protective panels of his vest damaging the left ventricle of his heart. Officer Stewart was transferred to a local hospital where he died while undergoing emergency surgery.
