Description: Officer Smith was in pursuit of a man who had been arguing with his roomer. The man pulled to the side of the road and ran toward the stopped cruiser behind him, shooting Officer Smith. Officer Smith fell to the ground, but managed to drag himself back to the car. The man then returned and pulled Officer Smith our of the car, beating him with a metallic object, and then taking the officer's gun. When Deputies arrived the man attempted to shoot at them, but both of his guns jammed. He was then taken in and given the death penalty.
