Description: Officers Slater and Silas Martz responded to a disturbance at the Palace Drug Store where an intoxicated man was threatening people with a .45 revolver. Officer Martz was shot in the neck by the suspect and died immediately following the incident. As Officer Slater entered the drug store and tried to draw his weapon, he accidentally discharged it and shot himself in the leg. Officer Slater died a day later from his wound.
