Description: Sheriff Smith, Deputy George Beck and Deputy Will Briggs went to a residence to arrest several men wanted for robbery. The lawmen surrounded the cabin and ordered the suspects to surrender. The request was met with a hail of gunfire and Deputy Beck was fatally shot four times. Sheriff Smith kicked in the door and was shot in the chest. Deputy Briggs was able to identify the fleeing gunmen and a posse was formed. Three of the suspects were caught.
