Description: Private Schmid and two other Rangers were sent to Fort Bend in an attempt to quell a shootout between two political parties. Private Schmid and the Rangers attempted to intervene and were caught in the cross fire. Private Schmid was shot in the leg and abdomen and placed under a doctor's care. Private Schmid recovered enough to return to a clerical position in 1892 but died the following year.
