Description: City Marshal Smart was shot in an altercation with the town grocer. Marshal Smart was approached by the grocer, who had also employed him in the past, and questioned him on his opinion regarding trade unions. The two men got into a fight and the grocer pulled a .38 handgun and shot Marshal Smart in the groin. Marshal Smart, who was unarmed at the time of the shooting, died a short time later. The grocer was arrested.
