Description: Deputy Collector Stebbins was accidentally shot with his own gun as he attempted to mount his horse. As Deputy Stebbins was preparing to mount his horse, the animal bolted. Deputy Stebbins grabbed the reins which became entangled and he was dragged by the galloping horse. Deputy Stebbins' weapon discharged, wounding him in the torso. Deputy Stebbins was transported to his residence where he died.
