Description: Deputy Searles was accidentally struck and killed while assisting a stranded motorist on I-481. The driver of a minivan lost control of his vehicle and struck Deputy Searles' patrol car, pinning him between the minivan and his patrol car. Hundreds of cars went off the road as drivers contended with heavy snowfall and winds gusting up to 44 mph. A total of 94 accidents were reported between 6:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Deputy Searles was pronounced dead at the scene.
