Description: Disturbance call (barfights, persons with gun, etc.). Deputy Sheriff Stringer and L.K. Cruise responded to a disturbance call at the Peerless Coal Company in Vivian, West Virginia. As the deputies attempted to arrest three suspects for fighting, the suspects gained control of Deputy Stringer's weapon and shot him four times. Deputy Cruise was shot three times and had his ear bitten off, but survived the incident.
