Description: Sheriff Strider was in charge of crowd control and supervising the opening of a new dirt track in Gore Springs, Mississippi. A disturbance erupted among at least 45 attendants at the race. Sheriff Strider and fellow officers responded with pepper spray and full combat gear. While attempting to subdue a suspect who was assaulting him, Sheriff Strider collapsed to the ground. While fellow deputies initiated CPR, emergency units arrived and transported him to a local hospital. Sheriff Strider had suffered a fatal heart attack and died shortly after arriving at the hospital.
