Description: Sheriff Shellenbarger was shot as he attempted to place a man under arrest for assault with intent to kill. For five months, Sheriff Shellenbarger's condition was too critical to attempt to remove the bullet. When the doctors removed the bullet in October, they found that there was massive infection. Sheriff Shellenbarger died shortly after the completion of the operation.
