Description: Lieutenant Sunderland was killed in a three-vehicle accident on U.S. Highway 90. Lt. Sunderland and his son were en route to pick up two prisoners when their patrol vehicle was struck from behind. The impact of the accident forced the patrol vehicle into oncoming traffic where it was struck again by an SUV. Lieutenant Sunderland was pronounced dead at the scene, Deputy Sunderland was critically injured but survived.
