Description: Lieutenant Springer was assisting fellow officers in pursuit of a felonious assault suspect. Lieutenant Springer was able to capture the suspect and hold him while other officers arrived on the scene. Lieutenant Springer had been kicked seriously by the suspect in one of his legs and was taken to the hospital for examination. Doctors found a blood clot in Lieutenant Springer's leg. While being admitted to surgery, the blood clot moved from his leg to his lungs and finally to his heart. Lieutenant Springer died of a heart attack while awaiting surgery.
