Description: Corporal Sanford was shot and killed by two men robbing a service station. Corporal Sanford pulled into the service station and noticed a suspicious individual. He approached the car with his gun drawn and ordered the man to put his gun down. The second suspect emerged from behind the counter and fatally shot Corporal Sanford. He died at the scene. The suspects fled but were captured two days later. Corporal Sanford was off-duty, in civilian clothing and driving a patrol car on his way to assist a DARE function sponsored by the Harris County Sheriff's Office.
