Description: Officer Sykes and his partner were on patrol when they observed a car with a dragging muffler. A routine traffic stop escalated to a high speed chase. The car turned around then sped past the officers. The suspects fired twice, striking Officer Sykes in the throat. Officer Sykes was rushed to the hospital where he died. Unbeknownst to the officers, the suspects had just committed armed robbery of an individual. Officer Sykes had just graduated from the academy two week prior.
