Description: Deputy Sanford was killed in an automobile accident while responding as back-up to a disturbance call. While responding, the lead deputy encountered a car driving on the wrong side of the highway. He attempted to warn Deputy Sanford but he was unable to avoid the collision. Deputy Sanford's department vehicle was hit head-on and both vehicles burst into flames. Both drivers died at the scene.
