Description: Police Officer Schmidt was shot and killed while making a traffic stop. Officer Schmidt stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation and discovered that a passenger in the vehicle had an outstanding warrant. When Officer Schmidt asked the suspect to step out of the vehicle for questioning, the suspect opened fire. Officer Schmidt was shot four times and transported to a nearby hospital where he died. The suspect was taken into custody and charged with capital murder.
