Description: Sergeant Sanchez-Santiago was shot and killed while transporting a prisoner to jail. Sergeant Sanchez-Santiago and Lieutenant Edgardo Santiago-Fragosa were in charge of a prisoner who managed to gain possession of one of the officer'S service weapons. The suspect fatally shot Sergeant Sanchez-Santiago, critically wounded Lieutenant Santiago-Fragosa, and drove off in the patrol car. The suspect was recaptured the following day. Lieutenant Santiago-Fragosa succumbed to his injuries in the hospital five weeks later.
