Description: Officer Spiers was shot as he and Officer David West were transporting a DUI suspect from the police station to the jail. The suspect, whose wrists were handcuffed in front due to obesity, produced a concealed weapon and shot Officer Spiers in the head. Officer Spiers was transported to the hospital where he died later that evening following surgery. The suspect was convicted of murder and sentenced to life in prison.
